Technical Assistance Coordinator

Consulting for projects across HDI on physical and informational accessibility as well as leveraging technology to improve efficiency. Willing to take on and lead challenging projects and explore new concepts for the good of the team.

  • Create and revise web content to ensure proper grammar, plain language, and compliance with Section 508 and WCAG.
  • Create and revise internal and external materials, templates, and resources for accessibility.
  • Provide training to department staff, university staff, and external organizations on accessible ICT, accessible physical environments, disability etiquette, and assistive technology.

University of Kentucky Human Development Institute
Rehabilitation Technologist

Hired under UK-HDI's contract with the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. Provided direct, individualized assistive technology services to help Kentuckians achieve their education and employment goals. Additional responsibilities included grant writing, internal employee accommodations, establishing an AT Resource Center in Paintsville, and training PT doctoral students to repair and maintain durable medical equipment.

  • Assessment, technology recommendations, cost estimation, ordering, and implementation of AT solutions for OVR consumers.
  • Developed custom high- and low-tech assistive technology for consumers statewide.
  • Conducted ADA compliance audits of the built environment for businesses, client workplaces, and government buildings.
  • Presented at dozens of professional and disability-related conferences.
  • Developed a departmental case management system for the OVR AT team, first as a web app and then in Microsoft PowerApps.

Kentucky AgrAbility Project
Technology Specialist

Managed social media, operations technology, and web content for a USDA grant-funded program providing education and resources to farmers with disabilities. Taught Cooperative Extension colleagues Drupal development. Consulted on assistive technology for farmers. Developed a web app to match farmers with disabilities to commercial AT solutions. Selected Projects

Kentucky Appalachian Rural Rehabilitation Network (KARRN)

Interdisciplinary network established to encourage better communication across rehabilitative disciplines to improve service provision in rural Appalachian Kentucky. Involved in planning phases of several major projects across all manner of supports. Learn more about KARRN at karrn.org

Kentucky Assistive Technology Services (KATS) Network

Contributed to a wide range of projects including statewide inventory system training, staff in-services, and various grant projects. Provided support for the KATS Coordinating Center website. Led planning of an annual AT training conference. Led development and inventory purchasing for the AT Resource Center at the CDPVTC in Thelma. ProjectCARAT

DME reutilization program originally funded by an HHS grant. Co-wrote the grant and proposed the service learning model. Started the original program at CDPVTC in Thelma and developed protocols that refurbishing centers still use today. Trained multiple student cadres at CDPVTC and CERH in Hazard on DME disassembly, assessment, cleaning, and preparation. Built the website and administrative backend. Kentucky AgrAbility

Ongoing involvement with USDA grant project helping farmers adapt to disability and helping persons with disabilities become farmers. Roles grew from administrative to field work and evaluation. Attended RESNA conferences in New Orleans and Arlington. Built a web & mobile application for farmers and extension personnel to identify beneficial assistive technology. National AgrAbility Project

On Campus — Guest Lecturer & Subject Matter Expert

Served as guest lecturer and SME for medical doctoral, physical therapy, music therapy, psychology, engineering, and education programs at UK, as well as the OT program and Center for Student Accessibility at EKU.

Post-Secondary Disability Services

Worked closely with disability service centers at colleges and universities across the commonwealth to provide staff and student training on specific assistive technology solutions, AT evaluation processes, and connecting to outside resources. Also presented at the Kentucky AHEAD conference.

Community Leadership & Service

Appalachian Assistive Technology Loan Fund (AATLF)
Board Director

Helped grow AATLF in Kentucky by cultivating the relationship with the Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Loan Fund (PATF) to fill the gap left when Kentucky's alternative AT funding program lost its lending partner. Grew the organization to impact users throughout the Commonwealth. Guided the spin-off from PATF into a standalone federally-certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). The Board secured an agreement with KATLC providing $300,000 in loan capital to allow AATLF to serve more applicants statewide.

Advocado Press is a Louisville-based publisher focused on lived disability experience, and maintains the archives of The Disability Rag — a 20+ year publication chronicling the disability experience in America. Before joining the Board, contributed to anthology titles. Since joining, helped develop new publication leads, proofreading and editing, modernizing the web presence, and contributed to marketing and outreach efforts.
